Macos Spotify Notifications

  1. Spotify Notifications Windows

Step 4: Control Spotify from the Notification Center. While listening to Spotify music, open your Notification Center to use the new widget. Along with being able to pause, skip, and adjust volume, you'll also be able to view album art. With Spotify closed, the widget will disappear, making room for any other widgets you may have. Notify for Spotify displays a notification when new songs are played, lets you easily control playback in your menubar, and skip songs directly from the notification.

When I open iTunes and iPhoto (and some others) I'm told that there are new versions/updates available. When asked whether I want to download them now, I click YES and it takes me to Software Update (as usual). However, when Software Update launches and searches for updates, it tells me that there are no new updates available. Here are the steps I've taken so far:
Reset manual settings (?? all I know is the Apple guy told me to restart the computer holding Command, Option, P and R I think)
Repaired permissions
Repaired disk (worked somewhat because it showed me the available updates but when I went to download them they said the server was unreachable and when I re-opened Software Update the updates were no longer visible)
Does anyone have any other brilliant ideas???
THANKS!
PS: The last successful update was on March 20 2010 with Safari 4.0.5 and a Digital Camera update.

Are you also annoyed and tired by Spotify’s notification badge in the dock of Mac OS X? I totally was and found a simple list of instructions on apple.stackexchange.com and want to show you how to remove this “feature”.

If correctly used, notification badges are a cool thing. They notify you when an app wants your attention. Spotify abuses this feature and shows the number of pending notifications inside its app. That means: If you ever subscribed to somebodies playlist and this playlist is updated, you will be notified. Same goes for stuff like new tracks of your favorited artists. You have no control over these notifications and will always be notified. Otherusers are also annoyed by this misbehavior but nothing changes 🙁 Thats why my Spotify is mostly minimized to the background and when opened it shows this ugly notification badge in its UI:

Its annoying and always tries to steal my attention. Same goes for the Mac OS X dock icon:

Normally, you can open the system preferences and can disable the notifications. However, Spotify isn’t listed (although it uses the notification APIs of Mac OS X).

The instructions from stackoverflow write this missing entry into the notification database, so that it shows up in the list. Only after that you are allowed to disable Dock notifications:

Here’s the code of Ryan Patterson’s stackoverflow entry, in case it ever gets deleted:
